In the neighboring villages of Inden and Altdorf, located between Aachen and Cologne, approximately 3,000 people lived until the end of 2000. Today, both villages no longer exist. They had to make way for open-pit lignite mining. After the “land leveling” of one of the villages, the people are trying to rediscover their lost home.
