“Love in the Moonlight“ is set in the 1960s, but in contrast to “Shine“, which displays Thailand's real situation in the same era, the political background of LITM is fictitious. It is an example of high-quality “BL lakorns“, and some of the writers also wrote the scripts of the superb “To Sir, with Love“ and “Laws of Attraction“. Prince Saenkaew of Chansaeng (Peak Peemapol) is sent to Bangkok to secure the royal family’s assets after the kingdom of Chansaeng is under threat from the rulers of hostile Nanta. In order to find a safe haven for the royal family and their belongings, Saenkaew is to marry Pinanong (Perth Veerinsara), the daughter of a Thai family who are struggling as their wealth has dwindled. Saenkaew, however, is gay and falls for Sasin (Pearl Satjakorn), a musician and Pin’s cousin. Homophobia and greed within Saenkaew’s family stand in the way of their love, and as in every good lakorn, there are evil relatives, who don’t shy away from collaborating with the family’s enemies and even murder. Although I’ve been Peak’s fan for 9 years (“Make it Right“, 2016) I was skeptical if his acting skills could cope with the fantastic Pearl, but Peak has matured, and he is absolutely up to the job. If you like lakorn-style BL series, this is a must!
