Whilst not without its imperfections, The Thaw has enough on offer to keep you coming back. Lets start with the positives. The characters in this series, mostly feel, "real". In this respect, the writers are on target. Casting is solid too, with capable Polish actors who feel like they own the roles they are in. Where this series falls down somewhat is in the storytelling department. At times, the first series felt incoherent and the final episode, more than a little ridiculous. Who, for example, gives a bereaved man a service pistol and sends him out to accompany a criminal, who engineered his daughters murder? In summary, a decent crime thriller series, undermined, at times, by inconsistent and implausible storytelling.
